The Lifetime Achievement Award of the International Mineral Processing Congress (IMPC) was presented to Prof. Peter King, of the University of Utah, at the Gala Dinner of the XXII IMPC on 2nd October in Cape Town.

It was particularly appropriate that Peter should be awarded this highest honour at the first IMPC held on the African continent, as prior to his 15 years at Utah he was Professor of Metallurgy at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa.

Prof. Cyril O’Connor, chairman of the XXII IMPC read out the numerous glowing citations to Prof. King’s work, including his major contributions to flotation modelling and liberation analysis.

A very popular winner of the award, Peter spent almost an hour after the award ceremony being congratulated by many of his former students and research workers.
